Why To Use Tallow As A Facial Moisturizer
Tallow skincare is all the rage right now. And it should be. I have personally used tallow for years on my face and body and I can say without a doubt I’ll never go back to anything else. NEVER
- Skin Benefiting Nutrients in Tallow – Tallow (beef fat) shares biological traits similar to our skin allowing our bodies to use this substance easily in order to provide the nutrients your skin needs to stay moisturized and healthy.
- Vitamin A – Promotes healthy skin and skin repair.
- Vitamin D – Soothes skin and retains moisture.
- Vitamin E – Antioxidant
- Vitamin K – Vital for protecting the skin barrier.
- Palmitic/Stearic/Oleic Acids – Fatty acids that help protect, hydrate and clean the skin.
- Tallow is Naturally Antimicrobial – Wonderful for preventing acne and breakouts.
- It is an ancestral ancient nose to tail practice of utilizing the entire animal for more than just cooking.
Why make Your Own Tallow Skincare, is It Worth It?
Cost: Have you seen the going rate for a small jar of tallow moisturizer? A quick google search will show you jars ranging from $30-$45 for 4 ounces. Way too EXPENSIVE! With this recipe, if you purchase tallow at the average cost of $20 per quart, you can make a 4 ounce jar of whipped tallow $2.50. That’s a 80% savings. If you’re purchasing an animal, get the whole animal. You will have paid a flat rate for your cow, you might as well utilize every part in true nose to tail fashion. Ask for the fat! If you aren’t buying a cow, many butchers have excess fat (most people don’t ask for it) and are more than willing to sell it for a low price.
Quality: As with anything, making it at home insures you the best quality product and the knowledge of what is in that product. Tallow skincare should be made of a pure tallow, no fillers like so many cosmetics. Plus if you rendered the tallow yourself you will know the quality beef you have purchased. Opt for grass-fed, non GMO and local. Learn how to render your own tallow here!
Customizable: Creating your own tallow skincare has many benefits. One major benefit is that it is fully customizable to your preferences. If you’re sensitive to certain scents or essential oils – leave them out.
Using Tallow For Contact Dermatitis: My Personal Story Of Using Tallow
Disclaimer: I am not a Doctor, this is a personal opinion, not medical advice.
I was a professional cosmetologist for several years, and in the span of time I began to form an allergy to all hair coloring products and latex gloves.
After years of different diets (thinking it was food), detoxes, and multiple doctors all telling me I had the worst case of psoriasis they had ever seen, I quit my job for health reasons and within two weeks my skin completely cleared up. During this entire two year ordeal the only thing I could use to help keep my skin nourished and moisturized was tallow.
- Any regular soap or lotion burned my skin.
- Fragrances burned my skin.
- Clothing made from synthetic fibers burned my skin.

I became an expert in real vs. fake. In skincare that was healing vs skincare that was full of toxins (even greenwashed ones) my skin would tell me. Tallow was THE ONLY THING I could use. (Unscented at the time)
Never again will I use a commercial product. I’m convinced tallow is the reason I avoided infection during a year of open, oozing sores on my hands and arms.

I love that tallow is 100% sustainable. I raise a cow, have it butchered and request all the fat. Render the tallow and then make all of my cooking oil, body soap, moisturizer and sugar scrub for myself and my household.
No plastic, no fragrances, and no unpronounceable ingredients—just pure tallow. It’s nose-to-tail skincare, honoring how God intended. In a world of consumerism and disposability, it’s a mindful way to steward our resources.

Tallow moisturizer has a velvety feel on skin and a little goes a long way.
Use tallow moisturizer daily for a luxurious healthy skincare routine. Alternatively you can make a large batch for an all over body moisturizer.
Make it Pretty – Look for a beautiful vintage candy jar or other glass lidded dish to store your moisturizer. Combine your daily facial routine with a decor piece you love.
Tallow moisturizer is excellent to use prior to applying makeup and for gently removing any makeup at the end of the day.
