Tools You May Need

  • Cast Iron Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Measuring Cups

Can you make granola on the stoveTOP?

Yes you can make a healthy stovetop granola in a skillet and it turns out yummy and crunchy every time. I like to use a cast iron skillet but any heavy skillet will do. It may be a smaller batch than the traditional oven method but it is quick and simple and ready in 15 minutes. Perfect for snacks and breakfasts.

How to make stovetop granola crunchy

The key to crunchy homemade granola is toasting the oats until golden to get the nutty flavor and crunchy texture we all love. Don’t worry if it’s soft while warm—it crisps as it cools.

Is it worth it to make your own Low Sugar granola?

It is absolutely worth it. When you purchase pre-made granola you are mostly paying for convenience. The ingredients can get spendy but it’s someone else’s time you’re buying and at a premium price.

For example:

  • Store-bought granola from Azure Standard: $10/lb
  • Oats in bulk from Azure: $1.16/lb

That’s a 90% savings. So no matter what you put in your granola, it shouldn’t cost $10/lb.

What is granola made of?

Oats are the main ingredient for any granola recipe and they are incredibly inexpensive especially when purchased in bulk. You can find them on azure standard for $1.16/lb

Granola ingredients are completely customizable. Add in anything your family loves and leave out what you don’t. If you have allergies, making homemade granola is a great way to ensure your family’s dietary safety is met while creating a delicious pantry addition.

Common Low Sugar granola ingredients are:

  • Oats
  • Nuts (Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans)
  • Dried fruit (Raisins, Cranberries)
  • Coconut Flakes
  • Chocolate
  • Seeds (Chia, Hemp, Pumpkin)
  • Natural sweeteners (honey and maple syrup)
  • Extracts such as vanilla or almond
  • Cinnamon

Check out Azure Standard for all your toppings. The possibilities are endless!

How to make Stovetop granola healthy

The two biggest factors that affect how healthy your granola is:

  1. The type and amount of sugar
  2. The oil you use to toast the oats

Many families prioritize natural sugars over processed cane sugar.

Using an oil such as coconut oil will withstand the heat at which you toast your oats without imparting any flour or undergoing oxidation (going rancid) when cooking or when stored.
